  • Our remote storytelling approach

We have developed a process for producing and directing engaging audio and video content remotely to meet logistical, financial or editorial constraints.

This approach takes advantage of how comfortable people have become with online chats since lockdowns. It offers an authentic and efficient way of storytelling by combining remote interviews with targeted filming.

    1. Interview Process:

      • Using our honed interviewing skills, we conduct in-depth conversations through a professional video platform (think Zoom but without the connectivity issues!)

      • These interviews form the foundation of your story, whether it's personal experiences, explanations, or training content.

    2. Audio Production:

      • We edit the interviews to craft a cohesive audio narrative.

      • This can serve as a standalone podcast or as the backbone for video projects.

    3. Visual Enhancement (for video projects):

      • Where video is wanted, we will then film footage that illustrates the story being told with the option of added motion graphics.

    Evolving stories

For stories that are still unfolding we can follow the narrative by conducting multiple interviews over time and film key events in person when appropriate.

    Potential Uses of Remote Storytelling:

    • Projects involving multiple contributors across various locations, whether in the UK or abroad.

    • Collaborations with stakeholders who can't commit to traditional filming schedules.

    • E-learning and training video production

    • Long-term projects tracking progress or change over an extended period

    • Sensitive topics requiring anonymity

    • Crisis response situations where quick turnaround is essential

    • Internal corporate communications for geographically dispersed teams

  • At Satori, what sets us apart is our unique approach to developing and formatting content. That's why we encourage getting us involved early in the process to maximise impact. However, we also offer a range of traditional video and audio production services.

Discover. Develop. Deliver.

Discover. Develop. Deliver.

WHY CHOOSE SATORI?

We are storyfinders as well as storytellers.

Telling memorable stories means thinking like a documentary maker, not a marketer. We’ve been finding stories to share and ways to tell stories that will resonate with an audience for decades.

We offer stand-alone development workshops designed to help you find the most effective stories to solve your challenges.

That could be creating a format based on your brand, or unearthing stories from your organisation that will connect with your audience.

We empower the people we film

Our mission is to empower people by helping them share their stories authentically. When we give people the power to tell their story on their terms, it creates a deeper connection with the audience - motivating them into action or sharing the story the power to tell their story on their terms, it creates a deeper connection with the audience - motivating them into action or sharing the story.

Through our remote filming packages we are able to support people to tell their own story allowing some stories to unfold over a longer time frame.

We only do what we do best

We’re specialists in factual production (we have Bafta nominations to prove it). We don’t work with actors. Our expertise lies in finding and telling real stories, with real people.

Experts in creating formats

We like to package content in engaging formats that make your story accessible and returnable. The goal is to not only capture your audience’s attention but to keep them coming back for more.

Innovation through constraints

We have experience working within the constraints faced by organisations, non-profits and brands.

Whether it’s simplifying complex scenarios or balancing stakeholder demands, we embrace the ‘freedom of a tight brief’ to fuel innovation.

We also have years of experience in identifying the 'point of entry' into complex situations, making stories both accessible and engaging for the audience.

We come with a breadth of experience from documentaries on social issues to factual entertainment formats, talent fronted programmes and specialist factual series so we can adapt approach and tone to your needs.

Audience-Centric Approach

We never lose sight of your audience. Our role is to share your message in a way that engages viewers. The question “Would I want to watch this?” is always at the heart of our approach.

We use Motion Graphics to make your work stand out

With a Motion Graphics artist in our core team, you will have her input from the outset on how Motion Graphics could be used to enhance your story, whether that’s by conveying complex information, bringing the story together through visual effects or just by adding a little polish.

More than just video production

Our development process explores how we can best support your communications, whether through creating smaller video pieces to drive traffic to the main video content or expanding on the subject with a podcast. Our goal is to maximise impact and help you achieve your project objectives.

The gains of working with us and investing in the documentary process extend far beyond the final product. The workshops serve as a team building experience, aligning participants around a shared vision. The documentary process, both the development and filming allows key stakeholders to actively contribute, bringing fresh perspectives and a sense of ownership to the storytelling process. The commitment to authenticity is empowering to all involved.

Sustainability Awareness

With a strong background in sustainability, we are well-versed in the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and incorporate this knowledge into our approach. From sourcing local talent to developing ideas that highlight your environmental and social credentials, we ensure your content resonates with conscious audiences.

Case Study

Meet the Herders: Khanda & her kids

Sustainable Fibre Alliance

  • Series of short films on a small budget to promote the SFA’s mission of ensuring the long-term viability of cashmere, through the work it does.

  • The Sustainable Fibre Alliance (SFA) is committed to ensuring sustainable cashmere production through its development of a ‘SFA cashmere standard’. Working with herders in Mongolia to ensure cashmere is produced according to their grassland management and animal welfare standards.

They wanted to strengthen brands and manufacturers (stakeholders) confidence in cashmere as a responsible choice and with that the SFA’s work.

NB. The production of animal fibre always brings with it a response from animal rights bodies.

    • Demonstrate the commitment of Mongolian herders to high animal welfare standards.

    • Strengthen the emotional connection between brands and their investment in sustainable cashmere.

    • Highlight the value of the SFA's mission through engaging storytelling.

  • Fiona (together with a translator and one drone / camera operator) spent a week filming with three different herder families, dedicating a full day to each family.

Instead of focusing solely on SFA's specific welfare criteria, we aimed to illustrate the herders’ dedication and care through their daily lives.

The goal was to give the audience an insight into the herder lifestyle, their deep bond with their animals and give the audience the chance to connect with the herders on a human level.

  • Over 5 days filming , we produced a series of 5 short films that emphasised the herders' commitment to animal welfare and their sustainable practices.

We also produced 60 'micro-films' of cut downs and unused footage to be used for social media, which were shared amongst SFA's members.

By showcasing their authentic way of life and the intimate connection they have with their animals, the films conveyed the SFA's mission effectively.

The videos were used on the SFA website and Johnsons of Elgin.

ABOUT US

Fiona

After starting out as a business analyst in London and Germany, Fiona found a way to make her curiosity in people and places, into her career.

A BAFTA-nominated producer with 20 years of experience creating award-winning documentaries and developing TV programs for leading production companies in London and Manchester. Her work has involved developing ideas on a wide array of subjects and filming people from all walks of life—from wealthy socialites to mischievous pets—in settings as diverse as brothels and barrister chambers.

A champion of responsible filmmaking, Fiona produced a BAFTA-nominated Channel 4 series about children in the care system, which sparked a surge in adoption inquiries and overwhelmed websites with public interest.

A filming opportunity with herders in Mongolia led to a three-year strategic and operational role with a sustainability non-profit. This experience gave Fiona valuable insights into the communication challenges faced by sustainability organizations, inspiring her to establish Satori. Through Satori, she applies her creative yet pragmatic approach to storytelling, helping organizations share their stories with authenticity and minimal fuss.

Fiona’s work has appeared on all the main television channels, at the V&A Museum, in cinemas, and online.
